NGH NHS Trust opening times for Blood taking unit and Paediatrics


Effective from 20th March our blood taking unit will have different opening hours:

Monday to Friday 08:00 - 13:00

Saturday 07:30 – 12:00

Sunday and Bank Holidays Closed


Paediatric opening times:

Monday to Friday 08:00 – 11:30



From Tuesday the 31st of March there are changes to the Blood Taking Unit at NGH. In order to keep patients safe at this time we are redirecting parts of this service to The Three Shires Hospital.


If you require a blood test you will need to contact the hospital to make an appointment on these numbers:

Three Shires will offer appointments Monday to Friday during the following times:


Monday -Friday 9am - 12:30pm and  13:30pm - 17:00pm


If you are a patient of our Maternity Unit they will make arrangements for you to have your bloods taken and you do not need to attend the Three Shires.


If your child requires a blood test the Blood Taking Unit t NGH will be open on Mondays from 10am-11am for paediatric patients only.

You can book appointments and order repeat prescriptions via the web.   You can also view, change or cancel your forthcoming appointments.

You will need to register to use this service.  Please speak to reception and we’ll set you up with an account. 

The service is run by TPP SystmOne , the company that provides our practice software. 

The system has been accredited by NHS Connecting for Health as secure.

We would ask you not to book routine appointments just to obtain a seasonal Flu jab as there are separate clinics set up for this.  We will alway offer a Flu jab to eligible patients during consultations for other conditions between October and December (if we forget, please just ask the GP or Nurse)

When using this facility to book specialist consultations we would ask that you book along the following guidelines and please remember that all blood tests need to be taken before 12:00pm.

Asthma Check - 15 mins (Review Clinic)

BP Check - 15 mins (HCA or Nurse Clinic)
CHD Check - 15 mins (Review Clinic) Coil Check - 15 mins (Nurse Clinic)
Cx Smear - 15 mins (Nurse Clinic) Diabetic Annual Check - 30 mins (Review Clinic)
Diabetic Follow up - 15 mins (Review Clinic) Dietary Advice - 15 mins (HCA or Nurse Clinic)
Dressing Change - 15 mins (HCA or Nurse Clinic) Ongoing Pill Check - 15 mins (Nurse Clinic)
Smoking Advice - 15 mins (HCA or Nurse Clinic) Travel Health - 15 mins initially (Nurse Clinic)
