Appointments

The Practice runs an appointment system, based mainly on 10 minute appointments.

In accordance with our quality contract with the NHS, appointments are split with approximately 20% pre-bookable four weeks in advance, 30% available one week in advance, with the remainder for booking on the day.

We may need to ask you personal questions regarding your illness in order for us to determine which member of the Healthcare Team is best qualified to see you.

We do try to see you on time. If you are kept waiting please be patient. The cliniciam may be dealing with an emergency or complicated problem.

Please arrive promptly for your appointment. If you are late we may ask you to re-book you for another time/day.

If you cannot keep your appointment please let us know in good time.

TELEPHONE APPOINTMENTS

The doctors welcome consultations by telephone. Please state ‘phone call’ and your contact number when booking the appointment. Doctors will try calling you twice, but will not leave a message on an anwerphone for confidentiality reasons. In some circumstances it may be appropriate for you to speak to one of our Practice Nurses.

You can book appointments and order repeat prescriptions via the web. You can also view, change or cancel your forthcoming appointments.

You will need to register to use this service. Please speak to reception and we’ll set you up with an account.

The service is run by TPP SystmOne , the company that provides our practice software.

The system has been accredited by NHS Connecting for Health as secure.

We would ask you not to book routine appointments just to obtain a seasonal Flu jab as there are separate clinics set up for this. We will alway offer a Flu jab to eligible patients during consultations for other conditions between October and December (if we forget, please just ask the GP or Nurse)

When using this facility to book specialist consultations we would ask that you book along the following guidelines and please remember that all blood tests need to be taken before 12:00pm.

Doctor Availability

The table below lists the usual sessions that the doctors are available in surgery. However, this will vary according to holidays, sickness, meetings, and other changes required to meet individual commitments and to cover the over all supply requirements of the practice.

To inquire about results of blood tests, urine tests, x-rays or other investigations, please telephone the Medical Centre on 0844 815 1400 after 13.30 hrs, we may ask you to call back if you call before this time..

Please note that on occasion results are returned to us in stages (especially urine & stool samples) and should you be informed that a result is negative; it maybe followed up by a positive result a few days later. Should this be the case, then the Practice will contact you.

Please allow five working days after the test before phoning.

Home Visits

Doctor's bag Whenever possible we ask you to come to the surgery where we have more and better facilities and support. But if you are housebound or judged medically to be too unwell a doctor or one of our community nurses can visit you at home.

We cannot visit simply because you lack transport to the surgery.

If you need a doctor please phone reception on 08448 151 400 - before 10:00 hrs possible.
If you need a nurse please phone our community nurses on direct line 01604 259439 - again before 10:00 hrs if possible.

How we handle telephone calls

When you call the surgery during our opening hours on 08448 151 400 you will be given options which help us direct you to the appropriate person. You can also automatically make or cancel appointments, or arrange a repeat prescription, using Option 1.

Daily telephone assessment

To ensure we provide appropriate patient care each day we now operate telephone assessment, whereby callers with urgent requests for appointments or advice will be called back that day by a Doctor or Nurse. The Clinician will give you an urgent appointment or necessary healthcare advice.
